Workshop 1: Applications of Graphene-based Materials (7th afternoon and 8th May morning)

This workshop aims at presenting the current state of the art and the opportunities of graphene-based materials/devices and related structures for emerging technologies in the field of flexible electronics and transparent conductors, high frequency devices, digital logic, ultimate sensors and bio-related applications. Challenges in the fields of ultimate microelectronics, energy dissipation and thermal management, advanced composites for aeronautics, and large scale graphene production and device integration will be also targeted.

Workshop 2: Materials & Devices Characterization (7th afternoon and 8th May morning)

The aim of the present workshop consists in presenting the synthesis and the characterization of Graphene. Several production methods (CVD,  epitaxial growth, exfoliation, …) will be overviewed, as well as the characterization of  the synthesized samples using various specific experimental techniques such as STM,  HRTEM, Raman, ARPES, … A series of targeted talks have been selected in order to  present the state of the art in this research area.

Workshop 3: Theory & Simulation (7th afternoon and 8th May morning)

This workshop aims at presenting the state of the art in advanced modelling of structurally and chemically modified forms of graphene materials, together with progress in simulating graphene devices including transistors, chemical sensors, NEMS and so forth. From basic theoretical concepts to ultimate developments in first-principles calculations, an overall picture of recent achievements and research perspectives will be outline, including electronic, transport, optical and mechanical properties

Workshop 4: Worldwide Graphene Initiatives, Funding and Priorities (7th May afternoon)

This workshop will feature the latest initiatives performed on the field of Graphene. Will be a place where the Graphene Research Centers Worldwide can present their work and most innovative projects and also a get together with policymakers to discuss some crucial scientific policies (European commission, Flagship, etc.). This workshop will give an overall idea on the latest developments worldwide and will explore new avenues of graphene.

A series of targeted talks given by keynotes speakers will be followed by oral contributions selected from the Graphene 2014 submissions on all workshops mentioned above.

The Industrial Workshop “Graphene Connect” (7th May all day)
The series of industrial workshops Graphene Connect are an enabling instrument of the Graphene Flagship consortium to mainly engage people in discussions and envision new collaboration with European companies and academics working in applied research, innovation and development.
The first Graphene Connect workshop, held within the frame of GRAPHENE 2014, will focus on graphene-based nanocomposites.

This workshop will provide an excellent opportunity to give an overview on flagship research and industry demands, find collaboration partners for new projects and design of such projects for funding priorities of the Graphene Flagship consortium within the European Commission Horizon 2020 framework.
The first morning session (open to all participants of GRAPHENE 2014) will present the main research actions and objectives of the Graphene Flagship consortium concerning the fabrication and use of composites for boosting innovation in various industrial sectors, including technology areas of lightweight materials, heat transport, as well as materials for energy applications, flexible electronics, and gas barriers.
From 11:00, the workshop is restricted to registered participants.
Building on the morning presentation, dedicated group discussions giving the participant possibilities of engaging in discussions on future projects possibilities, as well as matchmaking are on the agenda.  Discussions topics are for instance

•2D composites for aeronautics/aerospace/automotive
•2D composites as biomaterial scaffold
•Graphene production and cost: what's the target value for composite applications?
•2D composites for electronics
•Low-density foams and materials based on 2D materials for energy applications
2D composites membranes and microfluidics

Participants will gain new R&D contacts, a possibility to learn more on graphene nanocomposites and formulate innovation projects for future flagship or other funding possibilities.

Registration deadline - Tuesday 22 April 2014.
